Lois started work on journals and magazines in London in the late 1980s, including Marie Claire, Essentials and other IPC titles, copy-editing and writing health news. She then moved to local newspapers in Australia in 1991, writing for the Brisbane Sunday Sun then sub-editing and writing cinema and book reviews and features at the Townsville Bulletin. In Hong Kong, she joined The South China Morning Post in 1993 where she was a news sub-editor, copy-taster, revise sub-editor and acting deputy chief sub. She has worked on  The Sunday Times since 1996, and is currently a revise sub-editor for Irish and Scottish news and business. Since returning to London, she has worked on The Times (business), The Guardian, The Telegraph and The Independent. She also writes freelance.
